My passion for dance began around the age of six. By age eight I began my formal training. I soon identified that while I saw the importance of classical ballet training in my technique, I was made for expression and athleticism, a style that Contemporary Modern Dance afforded me. I majored in Dance at Brockport State University transferring to Mills College, in California.

In recent years I have studied in the quiet of; my kitchen during meal prep, living room during dance parties with my youngest children, and in most recent days-my dining room which has become a make shift dance studio for my daughter and I; including mirrors and a mat (which I have found to be extremely useful in supporting my daughter’s imitation play

Play and Skill Mentor

Hi. My names Jessica, but everyone calls me Jess. I am a mom to three extraordinary teenagers who keep me on my toes. I enjoy crafting in my spare time, as well as gardening. Playing in the dirt is so relaxing. I love working with children, and have found a passion working with those with special needs. Nothing is more rewarding than helping them find a voice, and helping parents gain tools to make them feel more successful. I come from an integrated preschool, so have hands-on experience.

I enjoy watching the growth in the children, and the families as well. Never say never. There are multiple ways to succeed. And I am happy to have just a small part in that.

Fitness Instructor

My name is Katie. I have lived in the Auburn area my entire life. I have a thirteen-year old daughter and a sixteen-year old step son….and a fur baby as well! I have worked in the human services field for almost fourteen years. I have worked in day habilitation programs for people with disabilities, worked in a position that I was responsible for taking individuals out to volunteer and most recently as a care manager for people with disabilities. I love what I do and love helping others improve their quality of life.

Growing up, I always thought I wanted to be a gym teacher. Ask me why and I would tell you so I could wear sweatpants to work!! Well…that didn’t happen and it is ok because I learned so much more along the way. I have always been active and loved sports and learning about nutrition. About a year ago I started teaching cycling at the YMCA in Auburn. I am currently working on getting my certificate through NETA to teach group exercise classes, which I am so excited to do!!! I love sharing my knowledge and what has worked for me with others.

I would love to make fitness a full-time job and take it to the next level so who knows what the future will bring. I am looking forward to meeting new families through S.A.M.E. and continue to share my knowledge and passion with all of you. And let’s face it-if we can make exercise and nutrition fun it won’t ever feel like something you “have to do”!!

Educational Practitioner

My name is Miss Erin. I was born, raised, and now currently live in Auburn, NY, with my super creative and always exciting boys (ages 6yrs. and 3yrs). I hold an Early Childhood (Birth-2nd Grade) Professional Certification; and have a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Rochester.

Most of my life has been dedicated to caring for, and working with children of all ages. Past jobs include Babysitting as a teenager; a Counselor at Camp Y-Owasco; the Dance/Drama/Music Specialist for Camp Columbus (a camp for those with special needs, whose ages ranged from 5-90yrs. old). Also, for the past 12yrs., I have been working at Absolute Dance as a Youth Instructor, teaching Creative Movement I/II and Pre I/II.

I have a great passion and deep love for dancing. I have danced Ballet/Pointe/Contemporary/Jazz/and Hip Hop for over 20yrs. I have choreographed 3 plays for Auburn Player’s, including their Youth Theatre’s Production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. My other hobbies over the years have included travelling, horseback riding, yoga, and drawing and painting.

My philosophy I have pursued and followed since I was young student, and wish to share with all children, comes from some friendly pals known as the Paw Patrol, “Try your best and forget the rest!” With this, I hope to establish a welcoming, comfortable, and child-centered learning environment, where children feel free to be creative and try new skills.
